Medicinal Mushroom
Medicinal Mushroom
Mushrooms are fungi. Fungi are as uniquely different from plants. Fungi recycle plants after they die and transform them into rich soil. If not for mushrooms and fungi, the Earth would be buried in several feet of debris .and life on the planet would soon disappear. The oldest mushroom found in amber is from 90 million years ago—a Cordyceps. Scientists recently discovered a fossil first uncovered in 1859 and named Prototaxites, dating back more than 420 million years, a time when the tallest plants were around 2 feet tall. Prototaxites was 3 feet tall laying down, but if standing was nearly 30 feet high. In either case it would be the tallest organism on land…and it was a giant fungus. Mushrooms are interesting but are there any benefits to human being especially to their health???
Do you know that there is a lot more to mushroom than good taste! In Asia, mushrooms have been used throughout for decades for their medicinal value to human. A book published by BL publications, written by Beth M. Ley, Ph.D. entitles Medicinal Mushrooms for Immune Enhancement. The book explained the history of mushroom as traditional Chinese medicine and their legendary properties on promoting good health which has been supported by recent scientific studies. For example scientific studies on Tiger Milk Mushroom https://docs.wixstatic.com/ugd/a3933b_54af31cf93fc424bbe5c092b97a1e543.pdf , Cordyceps sinensis https://doi.org/10.1142/S0192415X96000165 , Agaricus Blazei Murill http://dx.doi.org/10.1155/2015/718539 and etc. You can access those links for a better understanding on the benefits of medicinal mushroom.
Mushrooms for Immune Enhancement
A. Mushroom Extracts
- Boost the immune system
- Combat viruses and bacteria
- Prevention from cancer
- Shrink existing tumor
B. Mushroom Polysaccharides (complex sugar)
- Able to stimulate cytokine production in human
- Cytokine is a small protein that aid immune signaling against pathogens
- Increase bone marrow production of important immune system cells
C. Mushroom Beta Glucan
- A glucose molecule that have been studied for more than 30 years.
- An important immune activator
- Triggers the defensive system in body which is known as immune system against viral, bacterial and potential cancerous invaders
- Influential on anti-oxidant properties as well as free radical scavenger
Above diagram explained the process on how Beta Glucan helps to enhance immune system. The consumption of supplement that contained Beta Glucan activates macrophages to identify and eliminate invading pathogens from the body, triggering a chain reaction leading to increased immune activity and best defensive allies.
Innovation of Medicinal Mushrooms for Malaysian Heritage
LiGNO Sdn.Bhd, founded in 2009, is the world’s first producer of the Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus). With supports from Ministry of Agriculture Malaysia, LiGNO has set up a production plant to cultivate, promote and commercialize Tiger Milk Mushroom. The Tiger Milk Mushroom, once thought to be uncultivable, was finally successfully cultivated by LiGNO using LiGNO’s special formulation and cultivation technology. This proprietary technology is highly prized as it can be also applied to the cultivation of other potential tropical medicinal mushroom. Over the year, LiGNO has expanded its’ product lines to other medicinal mushrooms such as Cordyceps sinensis. Tiger Milk Mushroom (Lignosus rhinocerus) and Cordyceps sinensis is a medicinal mushroom which has traditionally been used to treat various lung & respiratory ailments.
